Oil Wells: Uncertainty Trails Implementation Of Committee's Report

Cloud of uncertainty has enveloped the report of the presidential committee set up by ailing President Umaru Yar'Adua to investigate the controversies trailing the decision of the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission to cede 76 oil wells formerly belonging to Cross River state to Akwa Ibom state.

It was learnt that the committee which was headed by the then Vice President Goodluck Jonathan, now the Acting President, had waited in vain for Yar'Adua to return from his medical trip in Saudi Arabia to tender its report.

But our correspondent gathered that the elevation of Jonathan to an acting capacity by the National Assembly because of failure of Yar'Adua to return had created doubts as to the implementation of the committee's report and the future of the oil wells. It was gathered that what had really created confusion was whether Jonathan would act on the report in his capacity as an Acting President or he would keep the report on hold until Yar'Adua returned to the country.
